Overview

The product.

Vinyl windows are the most widely specified window type in residential replacement projects for good reason: they offer excellent thermal performance, require no painting or refinishing, and are available in a wide range of configurations and sizes. Modern vinyl windows with low-E dual-pane glazing consistently meet California Title 24 requirements and qualify for ENERGY STAR certification in the Southern California climate zone. Celeste specifies vinyl on homes where the architectural character is compatible with the material.

Manufacturer

To be specified — Celeste works with Milgard, Simonton, and other manufacturers appropriate to the project

A note on specification

Vinyl window quality varies significantly across manufacturers and product lines. Celeste specifies products based on documented NFRC performance ratings, not marketing claims.

Specification Criteria

What we look for.

Multi-chamber frame construction

Better vinyl windows use multi-chamber frame construction that improves both thermal performance and structural rigidity. We look for this as a baseline quality indicator.

NFRC-rated performance

We specify only NFRC-certified products. The U-factor and SHGC on the label must be independently verified — not manufacturer-stated.

Glazing options

As with aluminum, we differentiate glazing specification by orientation. South and west-facing windows receive lower SHGC glazing to reduce afternoon heat gain.

Hardware and operability

Window hardware quality affects both security and long-term operability. We specify products with hardware that is field-serviceable without full window replacement.

Typical Applications

Where we use it.
