Overview

The product.

Stucco is the dominant exterior finish material in Southern California, and for good reason: it is durable, fire-resistant, and architecturally appropriate for the region's Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial building traditions. But stucco is a system — the lath, weather-resistive barrier, scratch coat, brown coat, and finish coat must all be correctly specified and applied. Celeste approaches stucco work as a system specification, not a finish application.

Manufacturer

To be specified — Celeste works with Quanex, Parex, and other stucco system manufacturers appropriate to the project

A note on specification

Most stucco failures are not finish failures — they are system failures at the weather-resistive barrier, lath attachment, or flashing integration. Celeste assesses the full system before specifying repair or replacement scope.

Specification Criteria

What we look for.

Weather-resistive barrier condition

The WRB behind the stucco is the primary line of defense against moisture intrusion. We assess its condition and continuity before specifying any stucco work.

Lath type and attachment

The lath must be correctly attached to the framing and must be the appropriate type for the application. We look for correct fastener spacing and penetration depth.

Flashing integration

Stucco failures most commonly occur at transitions — windows, doors, roof-to-wall, and penetrations. We assess flashing integration at all transitions before specifying scope.

Finish texture and color match

On repair projects, matching the existing finish texture and color is often the most challenging aspect of the work. We assess the existing finish and specify accordingly.
