Overview

The product.

Ductless mini-split systems are the most appropriate HVAC specification for the majority of Southern California homes — particularly older homes without existing ductwork, homes with duct systems that are poorly designed or deteriorated, and homes where zone-by-zone temperature control is a priority. Modern inverter-driven mini-split systems are significantly more efficient than ducted systems in the Southern California climate, where heating loads are modest and cooling loads are concentrated in specific zones and time periods.

Manufacturer

To be specified — Celeste works with Mitsubishi, Daikin, and other manufacturers appropriate to the project

A note on specification

Mini-split system sizing and configuration require a Manual J load calculation for the specific home. Celeste does not size systems based on rules of thumb — we calculate the actual load for each zone before specifying equipment.

Specification Criteria

What we look for.

Manual J load calculation

Every Celeste HVAC specification begins with a Manual J load calculation for the specific home. This determines the correct equipment capacity for each zone — oversizing is as problematic as undersizing.

SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings

We specify equipment based on documented SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings — the current federal efficiency metrics. Higher ratings mean lower operating costs and better comfort.

Inverter technology

Inverter-driven compressors modulate their output to match the actual load — they don't cycle on and off at full capacity. This is the primary reason modern mini-splits are more efficient and comfortable than older systems.

Indoor unit placement

Indoor unit placement affects both comfort and aesthetics. We design the system layout to provide even temperature distribution while minimizing the visual impact of the indoor units.

Typical Applications

Where we use it.

Whole-home HVAC replacement in homes without existing ductwork

Zone additions in homes with existing central systems

New construction where ductless is the design intent
