Overview

The product.

Architectural (dimensional) shingles are the standard specification for most Southern California residential roofing projects. They offer a significant performance and aesthetic upgrade over three-tab shingles, with a layered profile that adds visual depth and improved wind resistance. Celeste specifies architectural shingles from manufacturers whose products carry Class A fire ratings and are appropriate for the California climate zone.

A note on specification

Celeste does not publish specific product model numbers or pricing here — those are determined during the assessment and proposal process based on the home's exposure, slope, existing system, and the homeowner's priorities. What we can tell you is what we look for when we specify.

Specification Criteria

What we look for.

Class A fire rating

Required for all hillside and high fire hazard severity zone (HFHSZ) locations. Celeste specifies Class A as the minimum on all projects regardless of location.

Wind resistance rating

Southern California's Santa Ana wind events require products rated for high wind uplift. We look for products rated to 130 mph or better.

Cool roof option

California Title 24 requires cool roof compliance on re-roofing projects in most climate zones. We specify products with qualifying solar reflectance and thermal emittance values.

Warranty structure

We look at both the product warranty and the workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranties vary significantly in what they actually cover — we explain the differences during the proposal process.
